"What is your favorite subject to photograph?"

As a photographer, I get asked that question A LOT! And truly, I find it extremely hard to find the right answer. The truth is....I love it all!

I love being in a spectacular moment such as an incredible sunrise or sunset and capturing it with my lens!

I love clicking my shutter when there is a pure and true moment happening between people and I love creating photographic moments as well.

And my newest passion of combining photography with digital painting is one of the most challenging and rewarding projects I have ever taken on!

So do I have to pick just one type? Do I have to be just one type of photographer?
I think as a photographer or an artist, most of us want to find our own style or "voice". We want to create art that is our own as often times a well known artist is known for their style. I have contemplated this more times then I can count and asked myself...should I just shoot in just one style and develop that area? Is it ok to be so diverse?

The conclusion that I have come to is DIVERSITY IN PHOTOGRAPHY IS GOOD!

Diversity is what keeps me excited and motivated to continue. It is adventurous and keeps my brain excited to learn and explore. It fulfills my creative side and most importantly, it just makes me happy!

But that is just me. Other's may differ and that is ok! Afterall, diversity is what makes the world go round!

What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below?

Alissa, good question. What comes to my mind is: what is your brand? I think it is great to have diversity in any interest or hobby - and with photography, I say the more the better! I love scenic landscapes, sunsets...one of my favorite subjects to photograph..and portraits of people at the beach with the sunset behind them. I also love taking photos of nature, animals, wild life so I, too, have various taste in what I like to shoot. Keep up the beautiful work. I love to see how you grow and change as a photographer. That is awesome!! Congrats!!

Uup..it's the branding piece that makes me question this whole idea. Can you be a brand if you are too diversified?

I think being true to yourself will ultimately allow your style to develop and stand out. Right now the part that inspires you is the diversity.
Your energy and passion needs that now; that may change one day. I would probably always check in and see if one style is leading the pack for your interest. I understand the pressure to find that one style and voice, but I don’t think I would want that pressure to take over the happy, motivated & creative feelings you get today.

Thanks Beth! That is exactly how I feel! There is pressure in the idea of becoming a "Brand" as Iris had said above. But I often times have to come back to the fact that I started this because I love it. It is my happy place and that is where it must stay. So for me the diversity is good I suppose.
