Long Island Fine Art Photography Heads to Sedona, Page and the Grand Canyon!

Part 1: Sedona

Truth be told I am a Long Islander, New York born and raised beach girl to the core. Yet, photography has made me interested in seeing and photographing other regions of this beautiful country.  So, on August 20th, I packed up my family for our first trip to the Southwest. Wow!! It was breathtaking. This post will highlight some of my favorite places that we visited.

The first stop on our trip was Sedona, Arizona. What an amazing place! Hiking, jeep tours, shopping and of course photography. You name it, we did it! We took a fantastic private jeep ride with Safari Jeep Tours, who by the way, I HIGHLY recommend! We spent four hours off roading through Red Rock country. The highlight of the jeep tour was spending time hiking to an overlook of Merry-Go Round.

We ended our jeep safari with a beautiful sunset at the end of Schnebly Hill Road.

We were there during monsoon season, the incredible rain clouds that rolled in and out all day long allowed for extraordinary skies and photographic opportunities!

The next morning we decided to go for a hike up Cathedral Rock. I must preface this by saying I have a true fear of heights and this trip helped conquer that a bit! (Although some of us hiked up higher then others. I'm not saying who, but I can tell you that I did not get a photo from the very top! )

This breathtaking view from my rest while going up Cathedral Rock was taken with my Samsung Galaxy phone in panoramic mode. I must say, I was very happy with this shot!

On our third day we packed up and left Sedona for Page, Arizona and then on to the Grand Canyon. Those photos and adventures will be the topics of my upcoming blog posts. However, on our last day we traveled back to Sedona and took a fabulous helicopter ride over Red Rock country. This was our families first time in a helicopter and although we were nervous (myself and my daughter, the boys not so much!) we truly enjoyed the ride!
